Last Friday I went to the doc as a follow up on the Holter monitor and Echo. I fully expected to leave there having been told that nothing was wrong. Instead I left with two referrals, one to a cardiologist and the other to a urologist.
I talked them about the continued pain so they dipped another urine. There was no bacteria, but there was microscopic hematuria (blood). As she started talking about the referral to the urologist, all I could hear was bladder cancer. I was feeling instantly sick.
Then she started to talk to me about my heart. I could barely hear her. She said something about a valley and left bundle branch. I accepted the referral, made the appointments and left the office. The first thing on my mind was headig to the Chinese buffet and burrying myself in General Tso's and crab ragoon. Instead I talked to my mom who assured me that she would worry so I didn't need to. I also sent an email to a friend of mine who is a congenital heart defect specialist. Before I got her response a friend came over with coffee and a mondo cinnamon roll. We had a nice long talk. Then I got my friend's email response and I was put at ease. She let me know that it is very rare for women to get bladder cancer and even rarer for women who have never smoked.
Today was my apt at the cardiologist. Anyway, his explanation was almost word for word the same as my friends. He is going to kick my butt on a stress test next week. He thinks I'm a strong candidate for BP meds and that I should cut way back on my caffine.
I got an email from a woman this morning asking if I would speak at their women's retreat this fall. I'm quite excited about this. It all comes on the heels of my putting together a brochure of a specific retreat/class theme I'm interested in teaching and then sharing it with a couple key people. I may also get the opportunity to teach it at my home church.
One more piece of good news: I'm going to preach for a friend of mine. She's been filling in for a little coutry church and needs someone to cover for her in a couple weeks. It'll be the first time I've preached in five years. I'm really looking forward to it.
My apt with the urologist is tomorrow. Hopeully it will go as well as today's apt.
Nothing is wasted. My life is often messy: sometimes because of choices I've made and sometimes becuase life is just messy at times. No matter how the mess comes, one thing remains true: out of the mess comes my message.
