Kiss Control Good-bye

There are two boys, Asher (2 1/2) and Caden (3), running around my home. Toys are everywhere. The volume level is about 8 on a scale of 10. The only good thing: Asher doesn't need me or Pepa to chase him. There are a couple of toys that are going to go into hiding this week. Asher got a little battery operated trumpet when we went to the Disney Show a couple months ago. Caden likes to push one of the keys and just hold one note f.o.r.e.v.e.r! The other toy is my Koosh paddles. Caden has already been caught once about to bash Asher with one.

Travis brought Caden over this morning. We're watching him so that Travis can go hunting this week. His family is really into hunting. I told him I want a couple steaks. Ann is coming to Ohio next weekend to go to a wedding and get stuff from her storage unit. She'll pick Caden up then. A couple weeks later she's coming back to Ohio to bring Caden home and she'll be leaving Penelope for a few weeks. At least that was the plan when they thought they were moving to Missouri in January, but her gentleman friend's orders got moved up to Dec. 20. I guess we'll find out sometime soon. I think one of the definitions or requirements of grandparenting is flexibility and the ability to change plans (or have none).

I've been reading that a class of wine a day are good for you. This may be the week to test that theory. Do I get to choose the size glass?

I was just sitting here typing and the house got quiet. For a briefest moment I started to enjoy the quiet, but then I realized quiet is more typically indicative of trouble...I'll check back later. Right now I need to make sure nothings burning or bleeding.

Thanksgiving Eve

This time last year, I was just coming back from a surprise dream vacation that my hub arranged in KC. It has to rate right up there as one of the best weekends of my life. I am so blessed. I know, you hear it all the time. Lately, Nelson has been packing a little extra in my lunch bag I take to Curves in the evening for me to share with my co-worker (manager). She is unhappy that he will be going back to work since that means I will be working less evenings and she won't be the beneficiary of his wonderful cooking. I'm going to miss it, too.

This morning I'm at the Pump House. I worked for a couple hours with the other woman on contact letters to various foundations. We also made a contact about an RFP for funding for the ministry's food pantry. It's been a very productive morning. She had to leave so while I have a quiet place to write, I'm going to put together next week's devotions for church.

Tomorrow is going to be nice and laid back. Nelson is doing all the cooking. It's always better that way! Asher will be with us while Beth works the buffet at the Country Club. We'll have dinner around 5PM. And of course, there will be lots of football.

Right now I'm feeling peace-full. I like it.

I Love Books

How funny that today's theme falls on the day of the Friends of the Library Book Sale! I collect books. I read some of them. I love the book sale.

Some really fun and interesting things happen at the book sale.

-People are pleasant. Does that surprise you? It did me at first. The books are crammed into two rooms of the basement of the Library. Lots of people go to the booksale. Lots of people go early, too. Young daughter Beth and I have gone to the last three together. It's fun. But it is crowded and warm. People are bumping into one another and trying to get by in crowded aisles. I just keep laughing and dancing. As you might imagine I make others laugh too.

-Today I was scanning the bottom shelf and stood up at the same time as another gentleman. We almost bonked heads. Turned out to be one of my favorite profs from seminary. We chuckled and then I said, "Like either of us needs another book." We laughed good on that one. He's such a precious man, it was fun to "run into him."

-As I was standing in line to check out in the hardback room (always the room I go to first), there was a gentleman checking out in front of me. He looked at the ladies taking the money and said, "I always wondered if I would find one of my books here." The money lady thought he was talking about a book he donated, but actually he was referring to the book he was buying and he had written it! He went on to say something about how it cost $60 in the store new and here he was buying it for $.75. It was sort of sad.

Beth got a couple cute parenting books and a slew of other stuff to read. Growing up she always had three books with her: the book she just finished, the one she just started reading and the one she was going to read next. She always looks for the Oprah Book Club Books.

I got a Max Lucado book (brand new), a biography of Leonardo DaVinci, three books to give as gifts, and few others I don't remember now. I came home with 13 books and only spent $6.75. I feel pretty good about that!

And now I’m going to have some Chinese for lunch! General Tso’s and crab ragoon. I got enough so that I’ll have leftovers for lunch the next couple days. Yum!

A Letter to A Younger Me

(Over at another place, aka online diary, where I keep my daily thoughts, there is a challenge to write an entry every day in the month of November. Each day there's a prompt to keep us challenged. Today we were encouraged to write a letter to a younger self. I am posting what I wrote, partly because I liked it, but also because someone over there said she wished every little girl could hear the things I wrote. Me, too.)

Dearest Precious One,
No really. You are. You don't have to prove that to anyone. And you don't have to convince anyone else of their worth, either. You thought for way too long that you were imperfect and therefore less than--WRONG! You are amazing and talented and just because the adult people (AKA parentals) who live in your home aren't able to articulate that it makes it no less true.

Don't push love away because you don't think you deserve it. Trust. And believe again Carol's very timely words: Never, never give up.

You are so talented and intelligent and you don't have to take a back seat to anyone. But realize this: there will always be someone smarter or more talented: AND THAT'S OKAY!

Keep laughing. Keep playing with bubbles. And sing and sing and sing. The glass really is overflowing. You can do this.

I will be with you and I believe in you!
