I, Job? (Mrs. Doubtfire)

I went for a job interview today. I did my best. The interviewer’s questions were all narrative in nature and required me to give general and specific information about how would handle issues pertinent to the position. I think well on my feet, so that was okay.

She told me that the next part of the process was to invite those that she has a good feeling about to complete a copyediting test. She scheduled mine for 3:00 this afternoon. I hope that’s a good sign and I hope I did acceptably. Tests make me so nervous. I failed my orals the first time I took them. I failed my committee during CPE training. I failed the counselors’ exam the first time I took, too. She said she didn’t expect me to be perfect—good thing. Right now I’ll settle for passing.

The position is at a publishing company. It’s a manager position. The manager is responsible for recruiting, training, and motivating to greater productivity the copyeditors under her supervision. The office is less than two miles from my home. There is no travel involved. Great pay and benefits. I really want this job.

I want to hope, but I’m afraid to. She’s going to let all the candidates know her decision by next Wednesday at the latest. I hope the ache in my stomach goes away before then.
